The Idea
The idea behind the Byington Automotive car is to use a combination of technology to build the best car that can be built in a garage.
We use the suspension and steering from the first generation Mazda Miata. The miata is well know throughout the racing world as one of the most fun and best handling cars of all time. The great handling is especially important to us, we don't just want to have a car that looks good parked in the garage but that is just as comfortable on the track.
The transmission we sourced from a Subaru WRX. The WRX is an incredible car with a huge following of tuners with lots of aftermarket support this allows for countless options for gearing depending on your setup. So we simply disconnect the back half of the Subaru all wheel drive and add our adapter kit to the back of the transmission.
We wanted a small powerful engine to make it move so we choose the Ford 3.5L ecoboost as the power plant. It's direct injected twin turbo setup seemed like a perfect fit for our car, it's V6 size and V8 power sits directly behind the passengers creates an amazing weight balance.
Finally we tie it all in to our custom built space frame chassis and hand laid composite body using race proven methods to create a safe, and strong platform ready for whatever you throw at it.
